Ukraine is even ahead of Switzerland in terms of road construction.

During a working trip to Donbass, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga got acquainted with the progress of the construction of the highway of national importance Severodonetsk - Stanytsia Luganska, which is being carried out within the framework of the National Program Great Construction.

"We did not stop any infrastructure projects - the construction of schools, kindergartens and roads - during quarantine," the head of state said.

Olexandr Kubrakov, Chairman of the State Agency for Highways of Ukraine, demonstrated the schedule for the construction of highways in the Luhansk region. In 2014-2016, no roads were built in the region at all, and in 2017-2019, only a few dozens of kilometers were built.

"At the same time, in the first half of 2020 only, 130 kilometers of roads were built and reconstructed in the region," Kubrakov said.

The Swiss President was sincerely surprised by these figures. "Ukraine is even ahead of Switzerland in terms of road construction," Sommaruga said.

Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Kyryl Tymoshenko, noted that within the framework of the Great Construction program, admission departments in medical institutions and stadiums are also being built.

"This region has not seen such a quality of roads that are equipped with modern infrastructure, even public transport stops with solar panels," Tymoshenko said.

This year it is planned to carry out repairs of other important roads of state and local importance.
